Common Questions

Per Illinois law, any adult aged 18, 19, or 20 who is applying for their first driver's license and has not previously completed a high school driver education program must complete this 6-hour course.

No. This is the classroom-only portion required by the state. After finishing this course, you must still visit a Secretary of State facility to pass your vision, written, and road skills tests.

Once you pass the final exam, we report your results to the Illinois Secretary of State (SOS). The SOS will then email your official Certificate of Completion to the address you provided. You must print this and take it to the DMV.

Adults aged 21 and older are not legally required to take this course to get a license in Illinois. However, many choose to take it as a refresher to help pass the written SOS exam.
