THREE STEPS TO PASS

The Class E Knowledge Exam is the final requirement before heading to the office to pick up your permit.

1. Simple Registration

Sign up and provide the basic details required by the State of Florida. Per state law, a parent or guardian must be present to monitor the student during the exam and provide their information as a proctor.

Available for students ages 15 through 17.

2. Complete the Online Exam

Take the 50-question exam from your own computer or tablet. The test covers Florida road rules and road signs. You have 60 minutes to complete the exam, and a score of 80% (40 out of 50) is required to pass.

3. Pick Up Your Permit

Once you pass, your results are automatically reported to the DHSMV. You can then visit your local Tax Collector's office or DMV to complete your vision/hearing tests, provide your required documents, and have your permit printed.

Knowledge is Power

Yes. You have to be between 15 and 17 years old-basically under 18. As soon as you are 18, you have to take the Permit Exam in-person at your local DMV office. 

Yes. It is required by the state of Florida for all first time drivers. 

There are 50 questions on the Florida Permit Exam. This means you will need to answer at least 40 answers correct in order to pass with an 80%. 

So, this means you can’t answer more than 10 questions incorrect. Once you reach 11 answers incorrectly, the exam will immediately end and you will fail.  

2COOL Traffic school and the FLHSMV & DMV offices are in communication. This means your score is immediately reported to their offices.  

When you go to the DMV office, just give them your personal information and they will be able to retrieve your score.

You can take the permit exam 3x online. Anything after that, you will have to head to the DMV offices to take it in-person.

If you fail the Permit exam due to your grade, or an incorrect answer to a personal security question or  even if you timed out because you didn’t answer the question in-time you will need to repurchased the Permit Exam again.
